Bring your class to explore Everything Travels Downstream! which features an interactive microscope station about stream food chains, a larger-than-life salmon species matching game, and information on how to “Be A Salmon Saver.” Located indoors in the Secrets of the Forest Interpretive Center, it’s the perfect rainy day activity.
The following are some resources to guide students on watershed exploration through our Everything Travels Downstream! exhibit. Activities can be implemented in a classroom environment, either in preparation for a trip to the zoo, or as a stand-alone lesson.
- Waves, Wetlands, and Watersheds is a classroom and community activity guide for teachers that addresses issues such as endangered species, marine debris, coastal geology, water use, and much more. This curriculum is correlated to the California State Science Content Standards for grades 3 through 8.
- Pacific Salmon & Steelhead coloring book illustrates the salmon lifecycle and how to distinguish between different salmonids.
- Stream to Sea developed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, helps students become aquatic stewards by providing learning resources and activities for primary through secondary level students.
- Salmon in the Classroom is an easy-to-print resource provided by Oregon State University which includes lesson plans, worksheets, and field trip ideas.
